Training to become a Dunstan Baby Language professional
The Dunstan Baby Language training is for baby professionals who want to use Dunstan Baby Language in their work, such as maternity nurses, lactation consultants, midwives, nurses, pre-verbal speech therapists, paediatric physiotherapists, childcare workers or doctors at child health clinics. The training enhances the professional’s skills in recognising Baby Language sounds and trains baby professionals to apply their knowledge of Dunstan Baby Language in their day-to-day professional work.
The training
The Basic Training consists of 2 online sessions. Each lesson lasts 2.5 hours. There is a period of approximately two months between the two lessons.
The five Dunstan Baby Language sounds are taught during the first course session and through the online course materials. Information is also provided about Priscilla Dunstan’s discovery of Dunstan Baby Language and the extensive research behind it.
In the two months following the start of the training, participants are asked to study the online course book, complete the questions for the various chapters and write a report on applying Dunstan Baby Language in at least two practical situations related to their own work.
Please note: It is therefore essential that you can arrange several (at least 2) observation sessions with babies.
Participants also receive access to the online Listening Exam, which assesses their listening skills. A resit is possible.
During the second session, all participants discuss their experiences from the training, and they continue practising how to apply Dunstan Baby Language in real-life situations.
Target audience and admission
No specific prior training is required for the Training Course. If you are not (yet) working as a baby professional, we will contact you to get acquainted and learn how this training fits into your plans.
Please note: for the training, you must find at least 1 family with whom you can practise explaining the 5 reflex sounds.
You should also observe as many other babies as possible, so that you have observed all the reflex sounds and can describe them in your reflective report.
Please note: the above refers to babies aged from 0 to 4 months.
Location
Our training courses are delivered online (via Zoom), so you can choose where you would like to participate from.
Study load
The Dunstan Baby Language training for professionals is not a one-off workshop, but a comprehensive training programme. The training consists of two extensive live lessons of 2.5 hours each, approximately 15 hours of mandatory self-study and individual support.
Participants are assessed throughout the programme and complete it with a certificate.
Requirements
The training is delivered online via Zoom. Ideally, you will take the training using a laptop or PC, but you can also join from a tablet or phone if necessary.
Make sure you have a quiet environment and a good internet connection.
We will send you a course workbook by post. Please provide your own pen and paper for taking notes if needed.
The reflection reports must be completed in Word and uploaded to your online learning environment as a Word file.

Certification
If the participant has attended all lessons, completed the open-book test and listening test, and submitted at least two reports on practical situations that have been assessed as satisfactory, they will receive a Dunstan Baby Language Certificate. They can then use the method in their daily work as a maternity care professional.
Please note: after completing this training, you are not yet permitted to teach courses to parents/caregivers. For this, you must complete the additional module.
Training professionals is reserved for Dunstan Baby Language Netherlands. You are therefore not permitted to train colleagues or other professionals.
The certificate is valid for 3 years.
To retain your certificate, it is important to complete the refresher course on time. If you do not do so, your certificate will expire and you will need to start the training again if you wish to continue using the Dunstan Baby Language method.

Accreditation
KCKZ
The professional associations for maternity nurses have accredited the Dunstan Baby Language Training with 8 study credits in categories C and D.
KNOV
The Royal Dutch Organisation of Midwives (KNOV) Quality Register for Midwives has accredited the Basic Baby Language Course with 5 points in category A: continuing professional development for the Quality Register for Midwives.
Other accreditations can be requested by arrangement.

Dunstan Baby Language Netherlands is registered with the Central Register of Short Vocational Education. This means that the training and course materials can be provided VAT-free.
Payment by instalments can be discussed.
